Why a Group Joining Safari?

A group joining safari is the ultimate way for solo travelers, couples, and budget-conscious adventurers to experience East Africa’s iconic wildlife. By sharing a custom 4×4 safari vehicle (usually 5–7 passengers), you dramatically cut the cost of transport, fuel, and guide fees while enjoying the exact same Big Five game drives, lodges, and Great Migration spectacle as a private tour. It’s the smartest, most social way to explore Kenya.

"With guaranteed departures from Nairobi , Mombasa, Diani & Watamu you simply pick your dates and we do the rest."

When Is the Best Time for a Kenya Joining Safari?

Kenya rewards you year round, but the best time depends on your goals. For the Great Migration and dramatic Masai Mara river crossings, visit July to October when wildlife viewing peaks. Prefer lush scenery, newborn animals, and lower prices? The green season from November to March is ideal, with clear Kilimanjaro views from Amboseli. In short, there is no wrong time to visit Kenya, only the perfect time for the adventure you have in mind.

The Great Wildebeest Migration reaches the Mara with those dramatic river crossings. Dry weather and thin vegetation make game viewing its best. Book early, it’s our busiest season.

Short rains bring lush scenery, newborn animals, and superb birding. Fewer crowds, lower rates, and Amboseli’s clearest Kilimanjaro views around December to February.

Long rains bring the greenest scenery and lowest prices, with big camp discounts. Wildlife is still abundant and roads are generally fine. Ideal for budget travellers.

Kenya Group Joining Safari FAQs

The honest answers to everything travellers ask us before they book.

So what actually is a joining safari?
Relax, no shared tents. A joining safari just means you hop into the same vehicle as a handful of other travellers (usually 5 to 7 of you) instead of booking a whole private car. You split the cost of the van, fuel, and guide, but you each get your own room and your own window seat. Think of it as carpooling to see lions, with better company.
I'm travelling solo. Will it be weird?
Not even a little. Joining safaris are basically built for solo travellers. You roll out as strangers on day one and, more often than not, roll back into Nairobi as a little friend group by day three. It's the safest, most social, and easiest-on-the-wallet way to see Kenya on your own.
Do I really get a window seat?
Real promise. We cap our vehicles at 5 to 7 people specifically so nobody is stuck in a middle seat squinting past someone's shoulder. Everyone gets a window and a clear shot at the pop-up roof. Your camera will thank you.
How much is this going to cost me?
Less than you'd think. Prices start from $80 per person for a Nairobi National Park half-day, $450 for a Masai Mara trip, and $200+ for Nakuru, Tsavo and Amboseli circuit.
When should I actually come?
Depends on your dream shot. July to October is peak season for the Great Migration and those famous river crossings. November to March brings lush scenery, baby animals, and clear Kilimanjaro views. April to June is quiet and budget-friendly with the greenest landscapes. There's no bad time.
Will I actually see the Big Five?
Great odds, but no promises, and that's a good thing. This is genuine wilderness, not a zoo, so animals go where they please. That said, the Mara, Amboseli, and Nakuru give you excellent chances at lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino. The thrill is in the search, and our guides are very good at it.
Is Kenya safe? My family keeps asking.
Yes, and you can tell them we said so. The main safari regions are well-travelled and secure, our vehicles are fully insured, we're a KATO-licensed operator, and there's someone on call for you 24/7. Common-sense travel habits are all you really need.
Do I need a visa, jabs, or paperwork?
A few things. Most visitors now need an eTA sorted online before flying, plus a passport valid for at least six months. Chat with your doctor about malaria tablets, and if you're arriving from a yellow-fever country, bring your certificate. We'll happily point you in the right direction.
What's the deal with tipping?
Totally your call, but a little goes a long way. A common guideline is around $10 to $15 a day for your driver-guide, plus a few dollars a day for camp staff. It's always appreciated and never expected.
What's a normal day on safari like?
Early starts, big rewards. Wake before sunrise for a game drive while the animals are active, head back for brunch, laze through the hot midday hours, then head out again for an afternoon drive that ends with a sunset and a drink in hand. Rinse, repeat, love every minute.
Lodge or tented camp? What's the difference?
Both are comfy, just different vibes. Lodges are solid-walled, hotel-style rooms with pools and all the trimmings. Tented camps are canvas, but think proper beds, hot showers, and en-suite bathrooms with the sounds of the bush outside. One's cosy and familiar, the other's a little more wild.
What about food? I've got dietary needs.
Eat well, no worries. Expect a generous mix of international and local dishes, and yes, vegetarian, halal, and other requirements are no problem with a little notice. Bottled water is provided on your game drives too.
Will my phone work? Can I charge my camera?
Mostly yes, occasionally no, and that's part of the charm. Most camps have Wi-Fi in the common areas and charging points, and our vehicles have plugs for your camera. Signal can drop out in remote spots, which is a lovely excuse to look up from the screen.
What should I pack?
Keep it neutral and comfy. Think khaki and olive tones, a warm layer for chilly morning drives, a sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfy shoes, binoculars, and a camera with a decent zoom. Leave the bright colours and heavy suitcase at home.
Can I combine parks or add a beach holiday?
Absolutely, that's the fun part. Our popular circuits link the Mara, Nakuru, Naivasha, and Amboseli, and plenty of travellers add a few days at the coast in Mombasa or Diani afterwards. Balloon rides and Maasai village visits slot in easily too.
How do I lock in my spot?
Easy and fast. A small deposit secures your seat, you pay the balance before departure, and free Nairobi pick-up is included. Most people book in a few minutes over WhatsApp. Seats fill quickly in migration season, so don't sit on it too long.
